Who knew,

Three months ago when I started this business I was not too confident of myself. If you told me it would be successful, I'd probably look at the ground and laugh. Then slowly walk away slightly embarrassed at the thought of it all. Using the encouragement of others I have really taken a leap of faith.

Today I am building models commercially for clients, building websites for historical societies and hobby shops. Pretty soon we will unveil the new company and online store.

I still am very nervous of how my approach at"Growing and preserving this Hobby" will go over. It sure isn't easy expressing new marketing techniques to old companies, let me tell you. Sometimes I feel why bother, especially when presented with the thoughts of potential clients. Fact is some hobby shop owners today think they are reaching their market effectively. And when I say without doubt that, that is wrong. I get responses from nice let downs to complete arrogance or ignorance.

I have a question. Have you ever looked in the Walther's website to see an item on sale, only to go and order it from you local hobby shop (LHS) to see the price shoot up 30%. What about seeing a product at a hobby fair and trying to buy it at the LHS. If it isn't available through Walthers your not going to get it. I've done my research, I had my kids yelled at or me scolded for bringing them in, I've paid twice as much as list price for DCC products. You tell me my why the hobby shop is dying.

We need a hobby that supports itself. Clubs, local modelers, hobby shops and hobby fairs all have an interest in growing the hobby locally and nationally. Too often that is not the case.

Since I have been turned down on one major goal I had for the company no less then 25 times. I am going to open a store and offer my shelf space to North American companies. Nothing drastic, just a reason for them to talk about me at local shows. Does that sound like a good idea ? Maybe tell that LHS owner sometime.
