This was our first N Scale kit and what a kit it was. Torn between modeling like mad to the finish and following the instructions, we had real issues with patiently building this kit. This kit will definitely impress even the most seasoned N Scaler. As always we painted the components in the sheet, this step is for the simple fact it is easier to paint this way. These components included the windows, doors, frames and trusses, brown.
We next assembled the timber frame by using carpenters glue, applied with a toothpick, wipe off excess. Use a squaring device to properly set the main building.
Using a mini set of clamps we then added the board skins to the outside of the main structure.
We added the side shop and trusses next. Starting with the trusses we added a wee bit of glue with the toothpick into each truss and wiped on the excess with our finger. The shop is added by first assembling the shop separately and then adding the completed shop (less roofing) to the building.
Notice the spaces between the boards, and how the wood looks here, can you say diorama.
Moving on to the roof we first painted the roof panels in the sheet, a combination of blues and tans. We next started the water tank to be placed on the roof. To wrap the tank around the frame we allowed the wood to soak in some water (carpenters trick) so it can expend and bend easier. While still wet first glue the leading edge then wrap with copper wire till it is set and tight, Let dry. Remove the wrapped wire carefully when dry and replace with really thin wire as shown.
We tackled the roof vent last, it looked so menacing. Not mean like, just I felt I would break it now matter what.Well fact is I broke one piece and that was from putting my weight down carelessly, which would have destroyed even an O-scale structure.
