Part 2: The Hull

The hull was a different matter, however. I sort of cheated and had my carpenter father-in-law carve one out of a solid block of white cedar. I'm sure that any type of soft wood will suffice.

I made the hull 107' long and 22' wide at its widest point. It tapers to the bow starting about 35' from the front. The line in the back represents where the back of the first deck will go, 25' from the stern.

The hull is water lined, so it sits 7' above the water. There isn't any reason for this particular height; I just shaved it down until I liked the looks of it.

One last thing before we leave the hull for now. It's a good time to make the round 'heel' for the stern so we can match it to the curve of the stern. I made mine 2' high so it will match the height of the gunnel that will go on later.
