Greeley Dormitory, Scratch built - without a ruler!

The Greeley B&B dormitory was designed to fill a space and a need. Greeley Mining Camp needed facilities for the miners. Originally built in 1897, the dorm had 23 sleeping rooms with 4 bunks each, housing up to 92 men: the 2 gang bosses shared the 24th room. The building has a footprint of 24' x 60'- a good sized building. Everything was brought up by rail or horseback. The rough service road was built in the early ‚'30s.

Scratch building is an art form that requires a keen eye for lengths and measurements. However, when you do find a set of plans in your scale it makes the task much faster and a lot easier. Thats where Railroad Model Craftsman comes in handy. Every so often (was more common in the past) they provide their subscribers with plans for scratch builds. This is true of the March/07 issue where we find complete HO scale drawings of a water tank.

Rob Goslin is an Aussie that obviously has some skill as this N scale scratch build is remarkable.
