O scale is an obsession for most, to me, this time at least its a vacation from Z. Sidetrack Laser makes this kit and I have to say I really enjoyed the build. It was a long build for me, about two weeks of evenings. First I need to relay an observation I made. Large pieces of wood soaks up a tonne of liquid so priming is recommended. If you are against priming brace the inner walls and let the glue cure before adding weatherings or paint.
We started by bracing the walls as mentioned we found this to be very important. Once cured, assemble the walls of the main building.
On dried we did a lite treatments of inkahol followed by antique white on a wet brush. This gives you a look that looks a wee bit neglected and used.
We added the first rafter as shown and let dry.Paint the rafter ends brown or grey to show in the end product.
This is a good time to sort out the windows and doors for the main building. Paint the window components in the sheet. We used Krylon forest green to paint the trims. Some of the windows we used sandstone to give a bit of variety to the monotone. We cut our glazing with a chopper 2 and applied it to the back of the window.
Brace and paint the main doors with the same techniques stated above. A quick consideration of its use will tell you if you need to make scrape marks on the door with sand paper, we did it.
We found adding the windows to be real easy glue and clamp them on and done. Same with the door, please don't forget to add the windows and doors like we did.
Adding the rafters is something we have come to enjoy with Sidetracks products. We have done two kits and each has had this style of rafter and we like it. Attaching the roof panels is so much better when you don't have to fiddle with rafter pieces and such. If you want to make the roof removable do not glue these in.
Glue the roof panels on, even if this roof is removable. Allow the glue time to cure. After gluing on the roof panels we added the roofing. Corrugated roofing has to be the hardest material to work with, when it comes to models. It needs a ton of work to make it look good.
We are going to write an article on the many ways to treat metal roofing, but we will briefly describe the task here. Step 1, dull coat, spraying dull coat on the metal gives glues, paints, powders and washes something to stick too. Step 2, We use white glue to glue on strips of metal. Step 3, To give the roof a rusted color we added Mig Products, Pigments. Much like powders these pigments give the perfect texture to a rusted area.
