Snack Shack, Boreal Models

Models of all types are available these days. Some depict a subject done so many times it is hard to plan a unique scene. Boreal Models, makes life a little easier by giving you the perfect model to inspire a scene found in many communities during harvest season.

Models of all types are available these days. Some depict a subject done so many times it is hard to plan a unique scene. Boreal Models, makes life a little easier by giving you the perfect model to inspire a scene found in many communities during harvest season.

We started off the build like any other, read the documentation, check for all the parts.

We found that the instructions were light but being such a small build we found no issue with figuring out how the model was assembled. The materials used we found to be perfect for their purpose. Hidden frames are made of strong micro-plywood, walls & batten of the wood you'd expect.

Of course preperation is the key to a good build. Stain your pieces that will be visible in the end. Staining them in the sheet will help with eliminate issues with warping, some will still happen. However letting the pieces completely dry will allow the components to return to their shape.

Next glue the decking to the base frame and allow to dry. Make sure the steps are sitting correctly.

Assembling the frame is pretty straight forward. We used our squaring blocks to make sure it was square and true. Taking the time to make sure your structure is square and true has got to be a hidden secret in modeling, do it and your model will look better.

Glue on the walls and after dried add the battens. The step previouses efforts become appearent when you add the roof. If done correctly you will have no gaps or warping.

Finishing up the model wasn't very tough. We painted the structure with a wet brush and a wee bit of antique white acrylic. Start at the top and a pull the paint down leaving the very bottum with a thin almost see through coat to mimic water damage.

Add the main shack to the decking.

This another build done and we have to say we were happy with the product over all. It was quite a chore putting the picnic tables together but all in all it went well.
